The Residential Tenancy Branch (RTB) had announced that a new Online Application for Dispute Resolution is projected to be available September 25, 2017 on the RTB website.
- Upload evidence online
- Apply for a fee waiver online
- Ability to resume an incomplete application
- Helpful email reminders and notifications
- Helpful information along each step of the application
- Mobile device friendly
- Improved look and intuitive design
This new online application will improve tenants’ and Landlords’ access to the dispute resolution process and reduce the need to call the RTB or visit a Service BC office. Check back on the LandlordBC website for more information about this new tool.
For over a year the RTB has worked to develop this new tool with the idea of streamlining services that are currently provided by over the phone support and in person interactions with Information offices. By reducing these interactions which are better served by a self serve model, it leaves room for landlords and tenants to contact the RTB with concerns that need to be handled over the phone or in person.
The new Online Application for Dispute Resolution integrates an easy to use feature for uploading evidence directly to your file which eliminates the need for visiting an RTB/ Service BC office to drop off evidence. A popular feature allows you to see the status of your application and alerts you if your tenant has filed for a review of a decision allowing you to apply for a writ of possession without making a call to the RTB.
What you need to know!
There are no changes to applications submitted prior to September 22, 2017 or to hearings that are already scheduled. Applicants who have questions, or who are required to update an application may contact the Residential Tenancy Branch via email at [email protected], in person at the Burnaby Residential Tenancy Branch office at #400 – 5021 Kingsway, or by phone at 1-800-665-8779.
There will be no access to the Online Application from Friday, September 22 from 4:00 p.m. to midnight. If a party’s statutory deadline occurs during this time, the deadline will be extended to September 25, 2017. Disabling the previous application is a complex process. There is a small chance the Online Application for Dispute Resolution will be unavailable over the weekend. In any case, an Online Application will be available to the public on Monday, September 25, 2017.
